LIFE

So much is pressing in on humans today that no one has time to stand still long enough to evaluate it. They gulp life and taste nothing. They eat life and have no savor.

Man

Created half to rise, and half to fall;
Great lord of all things, yet a prey to all;
Sole judge of truth, in endless error hurl'd;
The glory, jest, and riddle of the world.
Alexander Pope

What a piece of work is man! how noble in reason! how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how express and admirable! in action how like an angel! in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world! the paragon of animals! And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?
Shakesphere

He Listened

His thoughts were slow, his words were few, and never formed to glisten, but he was joy to all his friends--- you should have heard him listen!

Hard To Tell

There's so much good in the worst of us, and so much bad in the best of us, that it is hard to tell which one of us ought to reform the rest of us.

Money

If a man's after money, he's money-mad.
If he keeps it, he's a capitalist.
If he spends it, he's a playboy.
If he doesn't get it, he's a ne'er-do-well.
If he doesn't try to get it, he lacks ambition.
If he gets it without working for it, he's a parasite---
And if he accumulates it after years of toil,
people call him a fool who never got anything out of life.

Conscience

Conscience is a god to all mortals.
Conscience is the voice of the soul.
My conscience hath a thousand several tongues.
Conscience does make cowards of us all.

Days of the week

Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for its living,
And a child that's born on the Sabbath day,
Is fair and wise and good.

Worth Remembering

If we cannot get all we want, we should be thankful we don't get all we deserve.
He is not only idle who does nothing, but he is idle who might be better employed.
Little minds are wounded by little things.

A Better Man

Until we solve the human equation man and get him straightened out, we will never have a peaceful world. You have got to build a better man before you build a better society.

Gratitude

Two kinds of gratitude:
The sudden kind of feel for what we take,
The larger kind we feel for what we give.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL!!!

He Who Knows

He who knows not and knows not he knows not,
He is a fool----Shun him;

He who knows not and knows he knows not,
He is simple----Teach him;

He who knows and knows not he knows,
He is asleep----Wake him;

He who knows and knows he knows,
He is wise----Follow him;

Your Telephone Age

You can tell a person's age by his reaction to the telephone.
Youth-
It can't ring without you being sure it's for you, with exciting news.
Late 20's, 30's and 40's. Hopeful anticipation, increasingly giving the way to annoyance.
The 50's and 60's. You hope it's the wrong number and that no one wants
you to do anything.
The 70's let someone else answer it it won't be for you anyhow, thank goodness.

Far-Sighted

A draftee on his way to training camp asked another draftee,"Do you happen to have a match?"

"Sure", was the second draftee's reply. "But I'm making sure not to give you any!"

"But why?" was the startled query form the first recruit.

"Well," said the second, " we'll get to talking, and if we get to talking. We'll wind up as buddies. And if we're buddies, we'll get into the same tent and the same squad; then we'll both volunteer with special missions. Maybe we'll even get a dangerous night job; then we'll have to use flash lights. And if the flashlights should happen to go out some dark night in enemy territory, I sure don't want to be stranded with someone who doesn't even carry matches!"
